Richard Ernest Henry Viberg

1939-2026

Richard Ernest Henry Viberg
Richard Ernest Henry Viberg

Richard Ernest Henry Viberg, 86, of Riverview, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on July 12, 2026, with his loving family by his side.

Born on October 25, 1939, in Montreal, Quebec, he was the son of Ernest and birth mom Marjorie (MacEwan) Viberg and his second mom was Evelyn (Perry) Viberg.

Richard was the kind of man who was happiest when he was surrounded by the people he loved. Family meant everything to him, and he devoted his life to caring for those closest to him. He was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, great grandfather and someone his family could always depend on. Whether they needed a helping hand, a listening ear, or simply someone to make them laugh, Richard was always there.

His love of trains began as a young boy and stayed with him throughout his life. That childhood fascination grew into a career as a railway steam and diesel engineer, a job he thoroughly enjoyed for many years. He was also a dedicated volunteer with the Salem And Hillsborough Railroad where he was manager for a time. Later, he joined Atlantic Windoor Ltd. as a Senior Estimator specializing in commercial and industrial doors, where he remained until his retirement in 2012.

Richard had a larger-than-life sense of humour and loved making people smile. He was always ready with a joke, a funny story, or one of his famous skits and practical jokes. He enjoyed catching people off guard with his playful antics, and his laughter was often contagious. He had a way of making ordinary moments memorable, and those memories will continue to bring smiles to the hearts of those who knew him.

His faith was the foundation of his life. Richard cherished his church family, and the friendships he formed through his church meant so much to him. He lived his faith through kindness, encouragement, and genuine care for others.

If Richard could leave one final message for those he loved, it would simply be to remember the good times. He would want everyone to smile when they thought of him, to laugh at the stories and pranks they shared, and to always remember how deeply he loved his family and friends.

Richard will be forever loved and deeply missed by his devoted wife, best friend, and partner in crime of 38 years, Heather (Irving) Viberg. He leaves behind his children, Chris Viberg (Julie) of Hillsborough, Jennifer Viberg Ayers (Kyle) of Texas, Lori Fowler (Duncan) of Holtville, Stacey Cross (Ken) of Quispamsis, and Chris Mitton-Viberg (Caitlyn) of Havelock.

His grandchildren were the light of his life and brought him immeasurable pride and happiness. Left to cherish his memory are Olivia, Avery, Maxwell, Gabriella, Haily, Alexandria, Katie, Kenny, Kaitlin, Jake, Josh, Luke, Abigail, and Zephyr. He also shared a very special bond with his beloved great-grandson, Allo, and was eagerly looking forward to welcoming his newest great-granddaughter, Baby girl O'Donnell, who is expected to arrive soon.

Richard will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Gordon Viberg (Dale) of British Columbia; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Susan McQuire (Hugh) of Riverview, Don Irving (Darlene) of Hillsborough, Jeff Irving (Juanita) of Riverview, and Joanne Arbeau (Donnie) of Riverview; as well as several nieces and nephews, his cherished church family, and many lifelong friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and friendship.

In addition to his parents, Ernest and Marjorie Viberg, Richard was predeceased by his second mother, Evelyn, and by his parents-in-law, Donald and Geraldine Irving.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation at the Apostolic Lighthouse Church (339 Bayley Road, Riverview, NB) on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.
