Dorothy Mary Shaffer
1929-2026
Born in Minto, NB on December 27th, 1929, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Cecil E. and Rosa Mae (Surette) Steeves.
In November of 1949, Dorothy married the love of her life, Floyd Shaffer. Together they shared many happy years, building a home filled with love and raising their family. Dorothy was the heart of that home. Her daughters always knew they could count on her. Through every joy and every challenge, she was their greatest supporter, offering unwavering love, encouragement, and a listening ear.
A devoted member of Albert Mines Baptist Church, Dorothy faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She found great joy in sharing the hope and comfort that faith in the Lord could bring to a person's life. Her faith was the foundation on which she lived, guiding her words, her actions, and the way she treated others.
Dorothy had a gentle spirit and a caring heart. She genuinely cared about others and always wanted the very best for those around her. Whether it was family, friends, or neighbours, she had a special way of making everyone feel welcome and at home. She was well known for her warm hospitality and was an exceptional cook and baker who found great joy in sharing delicious meals and homemade treats for anyone who walked through her door.
She found peace and happiness outdoors, whether tending her flowers and gardens or simply sitting quietly, listening to the birds sing. She also enjoyed spending time working on her needlepoint projects, creating each piece with patience and care.
Nothing brought Dorothy more joy than her family. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart and filled her life with laughter and pride. As her family grew, she delighted in becoming a great-grandmother, creating precious memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Dorothy will be remembered for her faith, kindness, her quiet strength, and the unconditional love she shared so freely. The example she set through her compassion and devotion to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Shirley Shaffer of Riverview; Debbie Rossiter and Maxine Siddall (Gary) both of Shenstone; her treasured grandchildren, Julie, Josh, Tasha (Neil), Tabitha, and Trevor; several cherished great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her brothers, Willard Steeves (Linda) of Elgin, Donnie Steeves (Heather) of Parkindale, and Paul Steeves of Murray Corner; her sister, Joan Douthwright of Collier Mountain; her sister-in-law, Imelda Shaffer of Riverview; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Floyd; her daughter, Carol; her grandson, Jeremy; her brothers, Earl and Roy; her infant sister, Daisy and sisters, Marilyn, Doris, and Grace; her brothers-in-law, Ronald, George, Reginald, Alphonse, Wallace "Wiggie" (Marina), Fletcher, and Carvel (Joan); and her sisters-in-law, Gertie Sargent (Pat) and Irene.
Dorothy's family would like to thank everyone who offered their love, support, and kindness throughout her life and especially during her final days. Special thank you to Dr. Daigle Sippley and Extra-Mural nurse Holly for the care she received and the many expressions of compassion shown, they will always be remembered with gratitude.
The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Maxine and Gary for the loving care they gave to Dorothy during the last years of her life. By welcoming her into their home, and ensuring that every need was met with compassion, patience, and unwavering devotion. The selfless love and dedication brought great comfort to Dorothy and meant more to the entire family than words can express. They are deeply grateful for everything and the kindness and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
