Kathleen Elsie Elizabeth Goodwin

1947-2026

Kathleen Elsie Elizabeth Goodwin
Kathleen Goodwin passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her children, exactly as she wished. Her family was the centre of her world, and she was deeply grateful to have them by her side as she went on to her next journey. She was born in Alma NB on July 8, 1947, the daughter of the late William "Billy" Henry Edgett and Isabella "Bella" (Ovens) Edgett.

Kathleen met the love of her life while visiting a friend in Gagetown. At a local dance, she was swept off her feet by a charming young soldier from England named Tony. From that evening on, a beautiful love story began. Together they built a life filled with laughter, devotion, and unwavering love that lasted until Tony’s passing in 2023. Side by side through all of life’s joys and challenges, they created a home centred on love and family.

Together they raised three children who meant everything to Kathleen. Being a mother was her greatest pride, and later becoming a grandmother brought her even greater joy. She believed there was no blessing greater than family, and she treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. A mother’s love is the heart of a family, and Kathleen’s love was constant, gentle, and unconditional. Her grandchildren were truly the light of her life, and she cherished every laugh, hug, and memory shared with them.

Kathleen grew up in Alma and remained very close to her parents throughout her life. She formed many lifelong friendships there, including a special friendship with Marjorie that remained strong through the years with regular phone calls, laughter, and keeping up with one another’s lives. Kathleen was the kind of person who never forgot the people she cared about. Once you became her friend, you had a friend for life.

She and Tony later made their home in Riverview, where they built many lasting friendships and became close with their neighbours. Kathleen loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens. Tony happily tended the gardens while Kathleen enjoyed the beauty they brought. Together they shared a love of travel and especially enjoyed taking cruises and exploring the world. Kathleen often spoke about how grateful she was to have seen so many places and to have shared those experiences and stories with her family.

A greater wife, mother, and grandmother would be hard to find. Kathleen was kind-hearted, thoughtful, and deeply devoted to those she loved. She lived her life with strong faith and quiet grace. A devoted Christian, she was a member of Central United Church, where she formed many meaningful friendships within her church family.

Kathleen often said she felt blessed for the life she had lived and for the memories made along the way. Tony always kept her laughing and on her toes, and her children remained faithfully by her side throughout her life. During her final years, she was especially grateful for the love and care shown by her family. Ryan took a year away from work to live with and care for his mother when she needed him most, a gift of love she never took for granted. Later, Kathleen travelled back to Calgary so she could be close to her children and grandchildren, and those days spent together meant the world to her. She treasured every visit, every conversation, and every moment shared with her family. When she returned home to New Brunswick, she was thankful to have Erika stay with her, and in the end, she found great comfort in being surrounded by all of her children.

Kathleen was an extraordinary woman who lived life in her own way, with determination, strength, and love. She made sure her family knew her wishes, but most importantly, she made sure they knew how deeply they were loved. Though her family’s hearts are heavy, they find comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Tony, her parents, daughter Marissa, and all those who went before her.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Extra-Mural nurses and doctors for the wonderful care, kindness, and support shown to their mother. Your compassion will never be forgotten. A special thank you is also extended to Rev. Peggy Reid, who faithfully kept in touch with Kathleen following Tony’s passing. Your friendship, prayers, and comforting words brought her great peace during this difficult time.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Erika Goodwin of Calgary, AB, and Erynn Golder (Brendan) of Carstairs, AB; her son, Ryan Goodwin of Airdrie, AB; and by her treasured grandchildren, Rowan, Peyton, and Declan, who brought endless pride and happiness to her life. She will also be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family, Tony’s family in England, her lifelong best friend Marjorie Sinclair, close friend Laura Whitmee, The "Girlie Girls" and her many friends.

Besides her parents, Billy and Bella, Kathleen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Tony, her daughter, Marissa; and her sister, Mary Elliott (Russell).
