Charles James Cooper

1949-2026

Charles James Cooper

Charles James Cooper, 76, of Riverside-Albert, passed away unexpectedly at a friend’s home on May 10, 2026. He had been visiting with a friend, and his family finds comfort in knowing he was not alone as he went on to his next journey. Born in Albert, NB on May 27, 1949, he was the son of the late Rutherford and Georgia (Armstrong) Cooper.

Charlie worked as a mechanic and labourer over the years and was happiest when he was tinkering with cars, figuring out how to bring them back to life and get them running again. During the years he lived in Hillsborough, he became a familiar face around town, often found taking in local ball games, attending community events, or spending time with friends. He enjoyed many good times at the old Iron Horse back when it was a favourite local gathering place, where he loved listening to country music and playing songs on the jukebox.

Charlie had a great appreciation for the simple things in life, good music, good company, and a good laugh. He also had a special love for animals, especially cats and dogs, and always seemed to have a soft spot for any furry friend that crossed his path.

Charlie had a great sense of humour and loved nothing more than having a laugh and teasing those around him. He was well known for his collection of t-shirts with funny sayings, and he got just as much enjoyment out of people’s reactions from wearing them.

Charlie faced health challenges throughout his life, but he always kept a positive attitude and remained grateful for the care and kindness shown to him by his family and friends who stepped up to help whenever he needed it.

He has left us with many memories that will be cherished and held close for years to come.

He will be missed by his daughters, Tanya Cooper (Dan) of Notre-Dame and Krystal Cooper (Dennis) of Hillsborough; sisters, Sharon Tower of Albert Mines, Arlene Haslam (Blaine) of Alma, and Rhonda Rossiter (Vernon) of Alma; brothers, Darryl Cooper (Pam) of Alma, Robert Kevin "Minnie" Cooper (Angel) of Alma, and Terry Cooper of Moncton; brother-in-law, Dale Cochrane of Alberta; as well as his surviving aunt Elsie O'Regan (John) of Hillsborough; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Charlie shared an especially close friendship with Tanya Barbour, whose companionship meant a great deal to him over the past few years.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Paul; sisters, Louise Beers (Paul) and Juanita Cochrane; and brother, Gary Cooper; brother-in-law, Ronnie Tower.

Honouring Charlie’s wishes, there will be a private family visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Alma United Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest in the family lot beside his son, Paul.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alma United Cemetery, Kidney Foundation or charity of donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, NB E4H 3K2 (506-734-2780).
