Terry Austin Douthwright
1960-2026
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Terry Austin Douthwright, 65, of Albert Mines, who left us peacefully at home on February 18, 2026, following complications from heart disease. Terry was born in Chatham on May 12, 1960, the cherished son of the late Austin Lewis Douthwright and Joan (Steeves) Douthwright of Albert Mines.
Terry built his life around service, family, and the land he loved. After graduating from Holland College, he began his career with the Highway Patrol in the early 80's. When the department closed, Terry embraced a new chapter, travelling to Regina to complete his RCMP training. He went on to serve proudly with the RCMP for many years, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to his work and the communities he served. Though his career often took him far from home, his heart never strayed from Albert County. After retiring just a few years ago, he built a new home near his parents and the old homestead—a place where he could once again put down roots and be close to family.
Terry was happiest outdoors. Whether riding his ATV or snowmobile, hunting, fishing, gardening, or camping, he found peace in the woods and backroads of Albert County -especially when shared with his wife, Cathy. He was a proud member of Shepody Fish & Game, where he generously shared his knowledge by teaching firearms safety courses. He was also a dedicated member of Ground Search & Rescue, always ready to lend a hand when someone in the community needed help.
Retirement suited Terry well. He was rarely idle, often found in his garage with a project (or two) on the go. He took great pride in being close to his mom, always ready to lend a hand or fix whatever needed fixing. Those quiet "right-hand man" moments brought him genuine happiness.
Above all, Terry was a devoted family man. Cathy was his anchor—his partner, best friend, and the love of his life. He stood faithfully by her side as she bravely faced a terminal illness, caring for her with deep tenderness and unwavering devotion. When Cathy passed in November, a part of Terry went with her. Those who knew him understood the depth of that love. It comforts us to believe they are reunited now, side by side once more.
Terry remained strong for his children, he looked forward to the future and spending time with them. They were definitely his world. He looked forward with pride to watching his grandchildren grow. He loved them deeply and spoke of them often. Though his time with them was far too short, his stories, steady presence, and quiet strength will live on in their lives.
Terry found joy again in simple routines—time at camp with his good friends Terry, Frank, and Scott and the rest of the boys where laughter echoed through the woods and stories were told over countless card games. Those evenings meant more to him than he ever said.
He is now reunited with his father, his sisters, his beloved Cathy, and all those who have gone before him.

Terry will be deeply missed by his loving mother, Joan; his daughter, Meaghan Douthwright of Saint John; his son, Conner Douthwright (Kelsey) of Lakeland, NS; and his precious granddaughters, Adelynn "Addie" and Audrey. He also leaves behind his sisters, Joy Snelgrove (Donny) of Edgett’s Landing and Shelley Douthwright (Dana) of Albert Mines, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and former coworkers who will forever remember his loyalty, kindness, and unmistakable sense of humor.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate Terry's life will take place at the Albert County Funeral Home on Sunday, July 26th, 2026 at 2:00pm with Pastor Paul Steeves officiating. Following the service the family will bemeeting for further sharing of memories and for refreshments in the funeral home reception area. Interment will take place at the Albert Mines Baptist Cemetery, Albert Mines, NB.
