Eric Oliver Steeves

1949-2025

Eric Oliver Steeves
Eric Oliver Steeves, 76, of Albert Mines passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2025 at the Albert House Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Edgett's Landing, on May 10th, 1949 the son of the late Earl and Audrey (Steeves) Steeves.

He was a hard worker and got his work ethic from his parents. He was very close to his parents and enjoyed hearing stories about his ancestors, especially his grandparents. He worked for CN as a blacksmith and became Supervisor. He then followed his passion for cars, so it seems fitting he opened Steeves Country Auto Sales and sold used vehicles. He loved wheeling and dealing and getting a car, truck or bike and fixing them up to sell. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed being outdoors in nature. He enjoyed cutting wood and ran a portable sawmill, using the lumber to build the family camp. Eric loved riding his Harley Davidson and went on many excursions over the years. He travelled with his friends to Laconia for over 30 years without hardly missing a year. He, John Wright and Bob Cooke were the original guys to start their annual trips. He and Debbie travelled the world having been to New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii just to name a few where he loved to Boogie board the waves. He and Debbie did the Motorcycle Grand Tour Run all through the United States. He had many friends and was fun to be around. Eric was a loyal friend and was always there for anyone who needed a hand.

He was a talented man and often played his guitar and sang, whether it be a time with friends at a birthday party or singing in church on Sunday, he was always willing to share a song. He was a true entertainer. He loved to meet people and always made a point of knowing a little history, like asking "What's your mother's maiden name" as an example. If he didn't know you when he walked in he knew you before he left. He loved to tease and was a great story teller often having the room full of laughter. Eric was a strong man who dealt with life head on and he lived his life to the fullest. His family was the most important thing in the world to him. Eric was always there for them when they needed him and was a great provider. He was a faithful man and was a member of the Surrey Valley Baptist Church. When Eric was diagnosed with cancer he decided to ride it out without Chemo and Radiation and see how things went naturally. He felt blessed to be pain free for the most part and he got to enjoy his family and friends during that time. He thanked God everyday and was grateful for the life he had been given. At the end Eric was ready to go and knew where he was going. He was at peace heading into his Saviour's arms.

He was always thinking of others and this is the first chorus of a song he sang in church many times, and he would hope for them to be comforted by these words.

"My heart can sing when I pause to remember
A heartache here is but a stepping stone
Along a trail that's winding always upward,
This troubled world is not my final home."

Eric is now in his heavenly home.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Debbie ; daughter Jill Steeves ( Shawn) of Moncton and son Jonathan Steeves (Melissa) of Pine Glen.; sister, Cheryl McIvor (Allan) of Hillsborough; nephews, Adam (Sandy) and Andrew (Cheryl); grandson Cameron of Moncton, granddaughter Juliet of Riverview and granddaughter Jazmine (Noah) of Pine Glen. He will also be missed by his aunts, uncle, cousins, and friends and church family.
