Denis Richmond Simpson

1955-2024

Denis Richmond Simpson

Denis Richmond Simpson, 68, of Hillsborough passed away suddenly at his home on May 5, 2024. Denis was born in Moncton on June 30,1955  the son of the late Don "Joe" Denis Simpson and Lorna (McKinley) Simpson of Hillsborough.

Denis was employed at CN for twenty years, until deciding to venture out on his own and never truly retiring. He was a hard worker and enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with family and friends. He was a true "Jack of all Trades", and helped as many people as he could along the way.  He was known as the unofficial Mayor of Hillsborough and a pillar of the community.  He was the type of guy that everyone could count on, day or night, and would always go the extra mile.  He had a great sense of humour, was always up for a funny story to tell and the first person to crack a joke. He and his best friend Mike (Freddy) enjoyed lots of laughs and spending every day together. He and Donna enjoyed playing in crokinole tournaments, bowling leagues and playing crib.

One thing about Denis, he loved the simple life, he didn't need a lot and was content with what he had.  Denis loved his family and they made his days brighter. He could have had newer things but didn't see the point. He was a dedicated son that would check on his mom daily to make sure she had everything she needed. When you think of him, you can picture his overalls, ball cap and smile on his face.  He wouldn't want you to be sad but to think of all the good times and have a laugh as you reminisce.

His loss has left a hole in our lives because it was better with him in it.  We take comfort in the fact he is now reunited with his sweetheart Donna who he missed so much. " Together Forever "

Dad, you had a heart as big as an ocean,

A "soft side" you didn't like to show.

All your life you worked for your family,

You taught us and helped us to grow.

You were the man we could lean on,

who fostered a strong sense of pride,

You gave us love and affection

and always stayed by our side.

All our lives, we will be thankful,

That we had a father so true.

We never had to search for a hero,

because the hero in our lives was you.

He will be deeply missed by his mother, Lorna Simpson; son Jeremy (Sarah); daughters, Melissa (Shane), Ally (Carole) and Beth (Noel); his precious grandchildren, Justin, Will, Jonah and Nora; sisters, Judy Simpson (Sid) and Rhonda Carter (Kent).  He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and best friend (Mike Steeves), and by his community.

He was predeceased by his father, Don "Joe", his wife Donna Jonah and first wife and mother of his children, Cindy (Simpson).

The family will be having a casual get together to Celebrate Denis's life at the Hillsborough Kiwanis on Sunday, May 12th, 2024 from 2-4pm.  Come and share stories with his family and friends.
