James "Jim" Clinton Henderson

1937-2024

James "Jim" Clinton Henderson

James Clinton Henderson, 86, of Forest Dale Home and formerly of Riverview passed away peacefully at the home on January 12th, 2024.  He was born in Halifax, NS on May 9th, 1937 the son of the late Edgar H. Henderson and Florence "Claire" (Archibald) Henderson Churchill.

Jim grew up in Sackville.  He and his twin brother, Dave, joined the 8th Hussars (Princess Louise's) as troopers in 1952 and subsequently were selected as Sergeants for the Officer Candidate Program in Camp Borden.  Jim was assigned Instructor and Administration Officer with his regiment for two years.  He then went off to the Air Force as a pilot.  After university at Mount A and UNB he worked with NB Department of Highways as a land surveyor  and worked on Route 114 and in Fundy National Park.  He then started his own business, Henderson Surveys and ran it for many years.  He was a very big part of the development of Riverview.  Having worked with developer Byron Dobson and surveying all the subdivisions.  Having named several streets after his family.

He was very involved in his community and was Past President of the Moncton Elks Club, Coached Riverview Minor Hockey, a member of the Nummies and was a member of the Moncton Golf Club.  He enjoyed all sports and played hockey most of his life, being one of the older members of the Seniors league. He also enjoyed curling and had a very proud moment when he had an eight-ender a few years ago.  He would golf all over the Atlantic Provinces and travelled with his group of guys and he always enjoyed those times.  He also went to a few of his buddies' camps and talked about the day he got a moose, there is a picture to prove it.  He was also a member of the mixed bowling league and bowled right up until about a year ago.  He enjoyed times spent with his buddies and had made several life long friends.  One of the highlights of his life was going to the 175th Anniversary of the 8th Hussars reunion last May held in Moncton and Sussex.

Jim worked hard and played hard.  He enjoyed life and was always up for anything.  He and his first wife , Sylvia had two Children and they were fortunate to have a big extended family and many friends.  The Lebans family was a big part of their lives.  He and Sylvia spent a lot of time together golfing and travelling to Florida in the winter months.  Unfortunately he lost his wife at an early age. This was hard on him as they did everything together.  He was fortunate to meet and marry his second wife, Sharon who enriched his life and was a great companion for the last 20 years. He was blessed with another extended family and the Geldart family became a big part of his life as well.   He and Sharon loved to travel and made many cherished memories.  They also started attending the First Moncton Baptist Church together and he went almost every Sunday when he was well.

Jim was a true gentleman, characterized by qualities such as politeness, respect, and consideration for others. He was courteous, well-mannered, and displayed a sense of chivalry. He also demonstrated integrity, kindness, and empathy in his interactions with others. He had a great sense of humour and loved to tease and joke.   He will definately be remembered for his great personality and his big smile.  They don't make them like him anymore.
