Lena Mae Butland

1934-2023

Lena Mae Butland

Lena Mae Butland, 89, of Riverside-Albert, passed away peacefully at her home on October 14, 2023, with her devoted family by her side. Lena was born in Little Ridge, NB, to parents Minor Lyman and Laura (Knowlton). She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Lena was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was there for her family through every stage of their lives offering advice and her unconditional love. She was excited to hear about a new great grandbaby coming in March as well as the January wedding of one of her granddaughters. She also had a grandson and 3 great grandsons graduating in June as well as 2 great grand-daughters graduating from college in January. She was so proud of all of her grandchildren and their many
accomplishments and couldn’t wait to hear about what they’ve been doing.
Lena loved going on Sunday drives with her son and daughters. Her favorite stops were for Tim Hortons tea or to KFC for chicken. She enjoyed going to her "music shows" with her friends when she was able. She loved music and would listen to it daily from the comfort of her chair at home. She also loved watching WWE wrestling. Everyone knew to keep quiet and not interrupt her favorite shows. Lena will be remembered for many things. Her family will cherish the memories they have made forever. In their opinion, she made the best bread and dressing around. She always had tea on the stove and cookies in the cookie jar for when company came. She also loved a good game of cards. She would argue over who was the better player when she played cards with the grandchildren. There were always laughs when cards were played. In her younger years she quilted. Every baby or couple getting married in the family were gifted a quilt she had lovingly made. She was also well-known around the community for her knitted wool socks which she sold at the local market.

Lena will be deeply missed by her children; Brenda Rossiter of Lower Coverdale, Martha Turner of Moncton, Danny Butland (at home), Bonnie Beck (Paul Sr), Ricky Butland (Deborah) all of Riverside-Albert, and Timothy Butland (Charlene) of Hopewell Hill. She will also be missed by her 16 surviving grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews, close friends, and
family dogs Storm, Chanel, and Lily.

Lena was predeceased by both of her parents, husband Ronald Butland, siblings Olive, Mary, Ethel and Leonard, grandsons Douglas Wright, Benjamin Turner, and Dana Butland, as well as son-in-law Donald Rossiter.

The family would like to thank Dr Garston and Extramural NB for the excellent care provided for their mother so that she could remain at home where she was happiest.
