Muriel "Moon" Pauline (Simpson) Hawkes

1929-2023

Muriel "Moon" Pauline (Simpson) Hawkes

Muriel Hawkes, 94, of Hillsborough, passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2023, at the Lakeview Manor with her family by her side.

Muriel was born in Surrey on May 7, 1929, the daughter of the late Loyd and Lavangie (Terris) Simpson.

She worked at Eaton's in her younger years. She met Vaughn "Squeak" Hawkes and started her family; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a great sister and aunt and was well thought of by all her siblings and their families. Muriel was someone who didn't judge others; she accepted everyone for who they were and always saw the positive. She was a member of the Surrey Valley Baptist Church and attended faithfully. She was a past member of the Hillsborough Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch # 32, as she had many family members serve their country.

Muriel was a lady whose door was always open and everyone who entered had to have a cup of tea or a sweet treat. She would help anyone in need and go without herself. She felt blessed for everything she had and enjoyed the simple things in life. She always had a smile and she loved to laugh and have a good time. She spent a lot of time with her family and was always very close to the Hawkes family, who treated her like their own. You might say everyone she met became like family; she had a huge heart. She was a true inspiration to all who knew her. Even until the last few months, she lived independently and loved her little apartment with all her neighbours dropping by. She loved driving and was so proud to still have her driver's license in her 90's. She travelled to many events, especially her yard sales and Bingo games and always had a great time being the chauffeur.

"Family isn't always blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs, the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what."

Her family was her life, and she has left them many memories to cherish. She was so grateful for all their help as she aged and felt she had the best family in the world. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her everything.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Elaine Steeves (Brent) of Riverview; her sons, Raymond Hawkes (Loretta) of Hillsborough and Roy Hawkes (Jackie) of Moncton; her treasured grandchildren, Adam (Ashley), Matt (Tanya), Brad, Amanda (Craig) and Stephanie (Dylan); precious great-grandchildren, Austin, Gavin and Mila; close family friend Wayne Wilkins who was like a son to her; sisters-in-law, Annie Simpson and Lorna Simpson both of Hillsborough. She will also be missed by all her extended family, several nieces and nephews and the many friends she has made over the years.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Vaughn "Squeak"; brothers, Glendon "Dick", Curtis, Royden "Ted", Don "Joe", Vaughn "Bun"; sisters, Marion, Shirley and Ruby. She was the last surviving member of the Hawkes family.

She will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home on Thursday, September 7th, 2023, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral Service will be on Friday, September 8th, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Surrey Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Interment will be held in the Green Hill Cemetery, Edgett's Landing, NB.

Donations in her memory to the Green Hill Cemetery - Paving Fund or the Surrey Valley Baptist Church would be greatly appreciated.
