Doris Lillian (Hawkes) Stevens-Steeves

1925-2023

Doris Lillian (Hawkes) Stevens-Steeves
Doris Lillian Stevens-Steeves, 97, of Forest Dale Home and formerly of Hopewell Hill, NB passed away peacefully on May 29th, 2023 at the home with her family by her side.  Doris was born in Curryville, NB on November 18th, 1925 the daughter of the late Weldon and Annie (Gaynor) Hawkes.

Doris was a housewife and her first priority was her family.  She worked at the Albert County Hospital for 18 years as head of housekeeping before her retirement.  She was a real people person and loved talking with them and always had a smile for everyone she met.  She loved to cook and there was always room for one more at the table, her door was always open.  Doris and her first husband, Leonard Stevens, lived on a farm in Hopewell Hill.  Unfortunately Leonard died in 1976 as a result of a farm accident, she was strong and kept going for her children.  Her faith in her Lord & Saviour helped her get through the rough times in her life.   Later she met and married Ivan Steeves and together they had a very full and happy life.  They were fortunate to be able to live independently in their home in Hopewell Hill until they were both in their 90's.  They were faithful members of the New Life Pentecostal Church and loved their God with all their hearts.

Doris appreciated all the visits from her family and all the help they provided in making it possible for her to stay in her own home as long as she did.  She cherished all the daily phone calls and loved to talk and keep up on all the news.  Doris not only kept up on the current news but also had a wealth of knowledge on the past.

She and Ivan moved into Forest Dale Home  in December 2021 and were there together until Ivan passed away in February 2022.  She felt blessed to have so many people she knew at the home, she was very social and enjoyed her final days.  She was grateful to her children,  grandchildren and friends for all the visits and phone calls, without a doubt she knew she was loved and appreciated.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Forest Dale Home for all the kindness shown and care given to Doris while she was there.  It made us more at ease to know she was comfortable and well looked after.   The excellent care mom was given will never be forgotten.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Sandra Harris of Riverview, Pamela Higgs (Craig Hope), and Paula Wilson both of Hillsborough; sons, Rev. Don MacDougall (Wanda) of Moncton, Robert Stevens (Jean) of Oshawa, ON, Garry Stevens (Marion) of Hillsborough;  sisters Jacqueline Decoste (Lloyd) of Ottawa and Violet Hamilton of Moncton; her several treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She will also be missed by Frank Barrett (Monique) who had a very special place in her heart; by several nieces and nephews, all her extended family and friends.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Leonard Stevens and Ivan Steeves; sisters, Dorothy O'Hara, Reta Parker, Nettie Hicks, Leonard Hawkes, James Hawkes, Vance Hawkes; daughter-in-law, Patricia MacDougall.
