Freda Marie Kennie
1937-2023
Freda Marie Kennie passed away in the comfort of her home, on February 1st, 2023, with her family by her side.
She was born in New Horton, NB, the daughter of the late
Wainwright "Pappy" and Ruby (McKinley)
Weston.
Freda loved her roots and remained in Albert County her
entire life. She was passionate about her
music, getting her first guitar from her father at the age of
fourteen. She started playing when they lived on Grindstone
Island with her family, who formed the Fundy Trailers, having their
first gig at Harvey Hall when she was fifteen. Later they travelled
all over NB and had a weekly radio show broadcast over CKDH
Amherst radio station and made guest appearances on CFCY
Charlottetown. They also had several guest
appearances with the Bunkhouse Boys at the Parkton
Hall. She and her dad "Pappy" also
played at many weddings. She enjoyed playing her guitar and
loved to entertain her family and friends whenever she got the
chance.
She was an unpaid lay teacher who made sure her siblings
got their education as well as cooking, cleaning, picking berries and
goose tongue greens when they lived on Grindstone
Island.
She worked at the Fundy National Park for 32
years and then worked as a homemaker, caring for seniors in
their homes, until she was 80.
She will be missed by her daughters, Lori Squires (Gerald)
and Kelly MacLean; by her cherished grandson, Chad, and granddaughter
Heidi MacLean; brother, Ken Weston (Marie); sister, Betty Weston and
sister-in-law, Norma Weston. She will also be missed by
several nieces and nephews and by all the friends she's made over the
years.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Donald
Kennie; brothers, Victor Weston and Fred Weston; sister-in-law, Maxine
Weston.
The funeral service will be held at the Albert
County Funeral Home on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at

service. Interment will be held in the Bayview Cemetery,
