Eunice Frances Cail

1928-2021

Eunice Frances Cail

Eunice Frances Cail, 92, of Riverview and formerly of Riverside-Albert passed away peacefully on February 7, 2021 at the Moncton Hospital.

Eunice was born in Newcastle, NB on April 22, 1928, the daughter of the late Charles and Bridgette (Doucett) Donovan.

Nursing and Health Care were her passion, a graduate of the Hotel Dieu St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1950 she continued her training at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal in areas of surgical nursing and Public Health.  Upon completion of her  education she accepted a position with the Red Cross as an Outpost nurse in Harcourt, NB.

While working in Kent County she met and married Hazen Cail and spent seven years on the family farm.  Farm life did not suit Eunice and she and Hazen moved to the Riverside-Albert area where she became Hospital Administrator and Director of Nursing at the Albert County Hospital until her retirement in 1996.  It has been said that you never had to guess what she was thinking, her upfront approach coupled with caring touch earned her the respect of many.

She was a member of various professional organizations during her career, NB Nurses Association, NB Hospital Association, Regional Education Committee of the Canadian Cancer Society, Regional Administration Association, NB Health Services Executive, Rural Hospital Interest Group, American Association of Medical Administrators.  In retirement she served on numerous Boards and committees as well.  She was a founding member of the NB B & B Association, TIANB.  Active in her local community, she was a member of the Fundy Curling Club, a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, serving on many church committees and was the Church organist for over 36 years.  She was proud of her involvement with the Shepody Food Bank and was Board Chair for a number of years, she also helped organize the annual delivery of the Christmas food boxes and Santa in the Park community gathering.

She will be most remembered for her hospitality.  She and Hazen ran the Cailswick Babbling Brook Bed and Breakfast in their home for 19 years.  She always made sure that anyone who visited was well fed and entertained.  She was one of a kind and her charismatic ways will not be forgotten.  Eunice lived life large and put 110% into everything that she did.  Concerned and caring, she gave a great deal to her neighbours, community and friends.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter Heather Cail of Lower Coverdale, and son Kevin (Denise) of Florida; her treasured grandchildren Shana (Alex) and Mitchel (Karen); sister-in-law, Marie Donovan of Miramichi.  She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of the immediate family.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Hazen and infant son, Charles Roderick Cail.

Due to COVID there will be a private Funeral Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on February 12 at 11 am with live streaming.  Live streaming can be viewed through St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Catholic Church website- www.setmoncton.com. Interment will be in the Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, NB at a later date.

In memory of Eunice donations may be made to the Shepody Food Bank or Holy Ghost Cemetery.  She loved to host gatherings.  This final celebration was to acknowledge a life well lived and the coming together of family and friends.   Unfortunately, COVID19 is not conducive to the type of farewell she had intended.  The family asks that in the coming days you perform a simple act of kindness as a gesture of remembrance. We invite you to visit the funeral home website to sign the guest book and share memories of her.

Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114,  Hopewell Cape, NB, E4H 3K2  734-2780  www.albertcountyfh.com
