Jean Gertrude (Morrissey) MacLean

1930-2020

Jean Gertrude (Morrissey) MacLean

Jean Gertrude (Morrissey) MacLean, 89, of Hopewell Hill, NB, passed away peacefully
on Saturday 1 Feb 2020 at Forest Dale Home in Riverside-Albert, NB with her family by her side.

Jean was born in Riverside on 30 May 1930, the daughter of Thomas and Agnes
(Campbell) Morrissey. Jean worked as a retail clerk for several years before finding her
way to her soulmate, Charlie MacLean. They spent 40 years together farming and
raising their three children Catherine, Douglas and Jeffrey in Hopewell Hill.
Jean was a faithful member of Holy Ghost and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
Churches and was active in CWL. When her children were young, Jean participated in
the local private kindergarten and school hot lunch programs. She also enjoyed
cooking and pickling the produce of the farm and garden. Jean provided every level of
support at the farm from preparing lunches to take to the hayfields, escorting loads of
hay at twilight with four way flashers, to weekly trips to Sussex to the cattle auctions.
She was proud to provide a very loving presence to her husband, children, the cattle,
and in a special way to the family cats. Her laugh was infectious, and her sense of
humour and kindness are a key memory for those who have known her.

Jean is survived by her three children, Catherine and Douglas of Riverview, and Jeffrey
of Salisbury; her sisters-in-law Beulah Morrissey (late Fred) of Riverside-Albert and
Teresa Wilbur of Riverview as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by her brother Fred (Ted)
Morrissey, several aunts and uncles, especially Lena Keohan and Annie Arsenault with
whom she was very close. She was also predeceased by in-laws Don and Bertha
(Teahan) MacLean, Al and Mary (White) MacLean, Gus and Aileen (Greer) MacLean,
Duncan, Angus Andrew and Daisy MacLean and Trueman Wilbur.

A special word of appreciation and thanks for mum’s care companions from Access
Home Care: including Pam, Fran, Gail, Theresa, Shelley, and Lori-Ann as well as all the
staff and volunteers at Forest Dale for the longstanding support and friendship with her.
