Mary Naomi McGorman passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at Forestdale Home in Riverside on January 1,2019. She was born January 17, 1929, the third daughter of Robert and Nina McGorman of Shepody.
After Naomi completed her nursing education at McGill University she worked as a nurse in Canada before travelling to England to study Midwifery. She completed her Masters of Nursing at the University of Delhi. She had a 38-year career with Interserve International in India, Korea and Canada. She worked as a nursing supervisor and educator in the Landour Community Hospital in India and then mentored university students interested in overseas mission work, particularly India. She eventually became their national mission’s co-ordinator. Since her retirement in 1997 she has enjoyed her Shepody home and gardens while hosting friends and family; been very involved in her Albert County community and travelled widely. She served on the volunteer team of the Forestdale home, was an active member of the Hopewell Hill Baptist church and Women’s Missionary society and served on the Chaplaincy Committee of the Moncton Hospital.
She is survived by one sister Alberta (Rickard) and special nieces and nephew: Patsy(Eric)Davey , Nancy Rickard(David), Debra Rickard, Judy Moore, Kathy(Cliff) Steeves and John(Maria) Geldart and their families. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sisters Jean (Geldart) and Catherine.
Naomi’s family would like to thank the staff and physicians at the Forestdale Home for their thoughtful, compassionate care given to Naomi over the past 2 years.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Hopewell Hill Baptist Church, Hopewell Hill on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11am.
Donations in honour of Naomi may be made to Interserve, Union of Evangelical Students of India (UESI) or the Hopewell Hill Baptist Church.
