Harold Raymond  Smith

We are saddened to announce the death of Harold Raymond Smith of Moncton and Riverside-Albert. He passed away peacefully on April 11, 2018 at the Moncton Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  Harold was born on Gowland Mountain (Elgin, NB) on April 27, 1925.  He was the son of the late William and Lulu (MacKenzie) Smith, and the stepson of Florence (McKenzie) Smith.

Harold's faith was important to him and he was a member of the Elgin Baptist Church and later became a member of the Albert Baptist Church.  He was a hard working, loyal man.  He was loyal to his family, his church, his employers, employees and customers.   For 23 years Harold owned and operated the Esso Agency in Albert.  He later owned and operated Smith's Groceries.  Harold finished his working years as the Albert Postmaster for Canada Post.

He was a member of the McLelan Memorial Hospital Board, the Albert County Hospital Board, the Forestdale Nursing Home Board, the Riverside Consolidated Home & School, and the District 17 School Board.   He was a  member of the Fundy Curling Club and for years he volunteered with the Lions Club and the local St. John Ambulance.  Harold will be remembered for his great sense of humour, his quick wit and for his caring and kind ways.  He was always willing to lend a hand an help in any way he could.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Winnifred (McKinley) Smith and his loving and devoted daughters Brenda-Lee of Halifax, Angela and Juanita of Moncton; by his sister Carol Bartol (John) of Windsor, NS, his brother Winston Smith (Eileen) of Ottawa and sister-in-law Alice Smith (late Walter) of Vancouver.  He will also be missed by many loved nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his sisters Edna Smith, Dorothy Tingley (Clarence) and Mary Hughes (Frank); by his brothers George (Ann), Ken (Hazel), Edwin (Agnes), Robert, and Walter; by his niece Berna (Smith) Herout, nephew Kenny Smith and grand- nephew Dr. Rob Tingley.

He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with a time of visitation prior to the funeral service on Saturday from 12:00-2:00pm.  The funeral Service and Celebration of his life will be at the funeral home on Saturday, April 14th, 2018 at 2:00pm with Pastor Paul Steeves officiating.   Following the service the family will be meeting for further fellowship and for refreshments in the funeral home reception area.  Interment will be held in the Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, NB at a later date.

For those who wish, donations to the Elgin Baptist Cemetery, the Bennett & Albert County Health Care Foundation, or a charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

The family extends our thanks to the doctors from the Albert County Health and Wellness Centre and the doctors, nurses and staff of The Moncton Hospital.  We also want to thank our many family and friends for their prayers, visits and many kindnesses, especially during his four month hospital stay.  Your support will never be forgotten.
