Freda Louise Murphy
1924-2017
Freda Louise Murphy nee Fullerton, 92, of Albert Mines passed away at her home on July 17th, 2017.
Freda was born on November 17th, 1924 in Avon, a now
defunct coal mining town near Newcastle Creek, NB. She was
the fourth, of what would be ten, children to Russell and May (Milton)
Fullerton.
As with most of her generation, Freda served her Country in
WWII by enlisting in the Air Force. When posted to Charlottetown, PEI
she was considered to have cross dangerous waters, as German U-Boats
were prevalent in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, thus the Northumberland
Strait. She was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion,
Branch # 32, Hillsborough. She was fiercely independent,
but stoically faced her fate and adapted as both her sight and
mobility waned. When asked a question Freda was bluntly
honest in her answer. She persistently championed the
underdog and was extremely competitive when playing games.
She was a charismatic
curmudgeon.
Thanks to Freda !!! for living long enough to be a great
friend to her children,Joey Murphy, Mary Groothuis (Hank), Teresa
McCallum (Bob), Margie Murphy and Terry Murphy
(Jill).
For showing her grandchildren, J.J., Lee, Erin, Matthew,
Lisa, Elizabeth, Ron, Lesley, Danny, Michael, Katey and
great grandchildren,Arica, Aiden, Kiera, Patryk, Hana, Zoe, Callum,
Eric and Blake how to live a life full of respect, manners, tenacity,
humor and honesty.
For being a source of much fun and lots of laughs to her
sisters, brothers, and in-laws, Gerald Fullerton (Jean), Jean Glenn
(Carmen), Greta Fullerton, Millie Lunbolm (Paul), Carol Duffy (Mac),
Audrey Merrill, Gerard Fullerton (Linda), Pat
Brown(Allison), Terry Fullerton (Betty) and many nieces and
nephews.
Thanks to the nurses of Horizon Extramural, the services
they provided certainly diminished the strains and stresses of
aging. Thanks to Monique Godin (In Home
Health Care Inc.) for her care, compassion, joyous smile and
infectious laugh. Freda immensely enjoyed her monthly visits
over the past decade. Thanks to the Pharmaceutical staff at
Ford's Pharmacy (Hillsborough) for their patience, knowledge and
accommodation. Thanks to the entire staff, especially Krista
Cormier NP at the Albert County Health and Wellness Center, for your
quick response, kindness, empathy and tender treatment.
Freda thought that attending an appointment was like old home
week. Thanks to the family and friends for the many visits
over the years and also to those who kept Freda in their hearts and
prayers.
Donations to the Bennett and Albert County Health Care in
Freda's name would be greatly appreciated.
Freda's long life wish of donating her body to Medical
Science at Dalhousie University was achieved and her wish for the
living "Arise, my soul, the day has cometh!" is for us to
achieve.
