Donald Truman Kennie
1931-2016
Donald Kennie,85, of New Horton passed away
peacefully on November 30th, 2016 at the Dr. Georges-L Dumont Hospital
with his family by his side.
Donald was born in Waterside on October 2nd, 1931, the son
of the late Truman and Viola (Cahill) Kennie. Donald started
work in the construction industry in Labrador. He spent 24 years as a
linesman at NB Power, and later became a lobster fisherman.
He started working at the Forest Dale Nursing Home in 1980, working in
the maintenance department, until his full retirement in 1991. After
his retirement, Donald joined the Volunteer Fire Department, and the
Fish and Game Association. He was very active with
the Bayview Cemetery, having helped in maintaining the
grounds for several years. In his spare time Donald would spend most
of it outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, camping,
times spent at the camp in New Horton, and riding his
motorcycle. Donald enjoyed driving around the back roads of
Albert County and always would stop and talk to anyone around. He had
a special place in his heart for animals, especially Newfoundland
dogs. He was small in stature but he had a big personality, always a
big laugh or a story to share. He had a great sense of
humour. His family meant the world to him and his girls and
grandchildren were very special to him and he would do anything for
them. He would not want you to be sad but remember a funny
story, have a laugh, or say cheers in his honour as you reminisce.
" What we keep in memory is ours
forever."
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Freda (Weston)
Kennie; daughters Lori Squires (Gerald) of Stoney Creek and
Kelly MacLean of New Horton; cherished grandchildren, Heidi MacLean
and Chad Squires; sisters, Doris Barbour of Maple Ridge, BC, Barbara
Miller (Terry) of Saint John, Carolyn Kennie of Riverside-Albert,
sisters-in-law, Joyce Kennie of New Horton, Betty Weston (Kevin) of
New Horton; brother-in-laws, Ken Weston (Marie) of Moncton and Fred
Weston (Norma) of Lower Coverdale. He will also be missed by
several nieces and nephews and by many good friends.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Helen
Fisher (Raymond), and brother, Carl Kennie.
A Funeral Service to Celebrate his Life will be held at the
Albert County Funeral Home on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 at 2pm with
