Audbur Ernest Bishop

1943-2016

Audbur Ernest Bishop

Audbur Ernest Bishop, 73, of Hopewell Cape, owner of the Albert County Funeral Home,  passed away on November 24th, 2016  at home surrounded by his family.

Audbur was born in Cape Station on July 17th, 1943 the son of the late Donald and Thelma (Smith) Bishop.  Audbur had many jobs over the years but his main passion in life was working as a Funeral Director and Embalmer for the past 50 years, doing his first funeral with his grandmother at age 15. He had a compassion for people and was there for many families in their time of need.   He worked with his grandmother and father in the business and purchased the Bishop Funeral Home in 1970.  He moved the funeral home up the road to its current location building on a chapel and also changing the name to the Albert County Funeral Home Ltd. in 1976.  He was very proud of the fact he was the third generation and of having his daughter and granddaughter continue on the tradition in the business,  making the fourth and fifth generation to carry on the "Bishop Family" tradition.

His many other jobs over the years; he worked as a Dump truck driver and helped build the Mactaquac dam.  He was a bus driver for over 32 years last working in December of last year as a spare driver, Audbur loved children and was known for his kind and gentle manner.  He had a farm for years and enjoyed having all kinds of animals, cattle, horses, goats, turkeys and enjoyed being in the hayfield, always proud of the fact he started his own herd at the young age of 10.  He built Rock’s View Variety for his daughter in 1987.  He worked at the store himself for many years, even starting to cook in the Take-Out and he was known for his fantastic pizza. (maybe because he always put extra toppings, trying to make sure it was the best in town) He never wanted anyone to go hungry for sure.  He loved meeting and talking to people whether locals or tourists coming to visit the Rock’s, he would always go that extra mile for everyone.   He was an integral part of the community of Hopewell Cape and the surrounding areas.

He was also very community minded and enjoyed being involved in all kinds of organizations.  He was very proud of the fact he received the "Order of Brotherhood" from the St. John Ambulance as he was a volunteer with the Hillsborough St. John Ambulance for many years.  He answered the phone for the Ambulance for years and offered his services 24-7 as a dispatch.  He was a 4-H Leader with the Fundy Trail 4-H Club for 32 years, he was an Honorary Director and past President with the Mountain View Cemetery,  Member of the NB Liberal Association and currently President of the Albert Liberal Association, a founding Board member of the Forest Dale Home and was currently serving as a Board member, Former member of the Albert County Hospital , on the Albert County Historical Society and also had been involved with the Albert County Exhibition for many years. He drove for Albert County Tele-Drive and was also on the Board for Tele-Drive.  He was a member of the Dawson Settlement Baptist Church, Atlantic Baptist Convention Committee, Canadian Cancer Society, member of the New Brunswick Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association and Regional Development Board.  Audbur was definitely a man who wanted to serve others and help not only his friends but everyone that he could.

Audbur was the type of guy who always put others need ahead of his own, he was big in stature and had a huge heart and would give anyone the shirt off his back. Helping people was his main goal.

He was very proud of his girls and especially his grandchildren.  You could always count on him bragging or telling everyone who would listen how well his family was and all that they had accomplished.

Audbur was a very special man who has served not only his family but his community well.   May his legacy live on forever.

He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Faye (Butland) Bishop; daughters, Kim Stevens(Duane)of Stewiacke, Lisa Henderson (Sean) of Hopewell Cape  and Lana Duffy (Mike) of Lower Cape; his cherished grandchildren, Devin Stevens (Michelle) of Dartmouth, Chelsea Stevens (Adam) of Dartmouth, Brady Duffy (Morgan) of Lower Cape, Casey Duffy of Lower Cape; treasured great granddaughter, Keira Sparks Lucas of Dartmouth.  He was also looking forward to the arrival of his new great grandson who will be coming in the new year (Chelsea and Adam’s).   He will also be missed by special nephew, Todd Geldart and several other nieces and nephews; by all his in-laws, the Butland family and by his many friends.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Charles Bishop (Leona) and sister, Beatrice MacDonald.

Honoring Audbur’s open door policy at the Funeral Home he will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home on Sunday, November 27th, 2016 from 9am-9pm.  Feel free to stop in anytime during these hours to have a visit and cup of tea or coffee with the family.   The funeral service will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Monday, November 28th, 2016 at 2:00pm with his brother-in-law Rev. Don MacDougall officiating, Pastor David Ross and Rev. Jack Allen assisting.  A private Family Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lower Cape.

Honoring Audbur’s spirit please do a  random act of kindness or help someone in need, especially with the Christmas Season coming upon us.  Family Flowers only please.  It is hard to pick just two charities but these were both very important to him.  Donations to the Mountain View Cemetery or Albert County Tele-Drive would be greatly appreciated.
