Darla "Woods" Elizabeth Colwell

1952-2016

Darla "Woods" Elizabeth Colwell

Surrounded by her loving family and dear friends, Darla ‘Woods’ Elizabeth Colwell, age 64 of Weldon, NB, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, September, 26th, after an eight month battle with cancer.  Darla was the loving wife and best friend of Dennis Colwell, and the daughter of the late Ralph "Jim" Taylor and Daisy (Fletcher) Taylor of Hillsborough.

Darla was a member of the Valley Baptist Church, an active member of both Tops and the Albert County Trail Blazers ATV Club.  She loved golfing and camping, especially the campfires…with roasted marshmallow’s.  There were numerous hobbies and things she enjoyed over the years, including walking, snowshoeing, knitting, quilting, cruise vacations with the girls, nights out at the movies, game nights ‘in’ during the winter, her collection of porcelain dolls, and her favorite time of year, Christmas, when her collections of snow globes and cardinals were out on display in the house, and outdoor inflatables lit up the neighbourhood.  She loved cake and ice-cream (chocolate cake, of course), and if the ice-cream was homemade, it was a win-win situation.  Darla was a stay at home Mom while her kids were growing up, and then filled her life with numerous hobbies and activities afterwards.  Being a cat lover, she was comforted often during her illness by her six grand-fur babies, Balki, Mickey, Sullivan, Bertie, Sally and Sam. When you remember Darla, you will think of her great laugh and big smile. She would want everyone to think of all the fun they had during her life and her message would be live life to the fullest and enjoy every minute. She has left a great legacy of love to carry on. "You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide and though we cannot see you, you are always by our side. We love you."

She will be sadly missed by her husband of 45 years, Dennis; son Dwayne (Alison) of Weldon and daughter Deidra (Andrew Boudreau) of Riverview; mother Daisy Taylor of Hillsborough; sisters Deborah Smith (Robert) of Weldon and Deanna Dempsey (Brian) of Riverview; brother-in-law Boyd Colwell (Sharon) of Lefroy, ON and sister-in-law Heather MacLeod of Weldon, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and great friends.

She was also predeceased by her father-in-law Doug Colwell, mother-in-law Delia Colwell, and brother-in-law Craig Colwell.

To honor Darla’s wishes, she will be cremated. There will be no visitation or funeral service.  ‘A Celebration of Her Life’ will be held at the Kiwanis Centre in Hillsborough on Friday, October 7th, 2016 from 6-9PM for everyone who wishes, to gather and reminisce about the good times and the wonderful person known as ‘Woods’.

For those who wish, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association in her memory would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements are in care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, NB E4H-3K2, 734-2780
