A Funeral Director's Prayer

Lord, give me the patience needed to serve Everyone as my own;

The wisdom to understand other's feelings;

The knowledge to learn as well as instruct;

The kindness to treat everyone equally at all times;

The strength to endure long hours and hard work;

The desire to serve others as I would my own family;

The humility to accept words of thanks and praise;

The compassion to touch another's soul;

The pride and the right to smile when I have served a family well;

And Lord, most importantly the right to shed an

Honest tear when my heart is touched;

Lord, make me thankful that

I am a Funeral Director

Anthony J. Asselta III

This is a poem that really states the way we the Bishop Family feel.  We are thankful for the opportunities given to us to serve the families of our community and hope we can be of some help in their time of need.

The Bishop family has been in the funeral business for four generations, since 1921.  It all began when C. Edmund Bishop and his wife Inez (Benjerman) purchased the business from Whitney Calhoun.  Together they ran the funeral home for many years.  Edmund and Inez had a son, Donald, and he joined the business after he graduated.  The business was known as C. E. Bishop & Son until the death of Edmund in 1947.  At this time the business was left to Inez and Donald and the name was changed to the Bishop Funeral Home.  In 1970 Donald and Inez retired.  Leaving the business to Donald's son, Audbur.

Audbur had taken an interest in the business and was helping his father and grandmother run the business at this time.  When Audbur and his wife Faye got the business they moved it up the road approximately two miles.  There they built on an addition to the house consisting of a Chapel, double garage, casket selection room and preparation room.  Such is the funeral home today.

The name was also later changed to the "Albert County Funeral Home Ltd." (One of the reasons for the name change was there was another Bishop Funeral Home in Fredericton, and people were getting the two confused.)  Audbur and Faye's daughter, Lisa, started in the business after graduating from high school and received her license in 1988.

The funeral home is currently being run by Lisa with the help of her father, Audbur, Mother , Faye, and twin sister, Lana.  The business is still very much a family run business with all the family helping and being there when needed.

The Bishop family has been involved for many years in the funeral industry and the philosophy has remained the same "Whatever we can do to make it easier on the families we serve at a difficult time is what we are all about".

I hope this has given you a little knowledge about our funeral home and our history. Being in the funeral business for so many generations, it only seems a natural progression to hand down to the next generation. Lana has a daughter, Casey, She thinks when she gets older this is a profession she may persue. Let's hope her career goal stays the same and the Albert County Funeral Home will still be operating and handing down yet more of the Bishop's family personalized and caring service for years to come.

The staff of the funeral home now consists of Audbur and Faye Bishop, Lisa (Bishop) Henderson, Lana (Bishop) Duffy and also new to our firm is Frances McKinley, who is now helping in our pre-arranged funeral services.
